24 films, 24 artists and Tokyo
It’s exciting to once again put together a group exhibition that brings together many artists we love. Some of you may remember the collective exhibitions we organized years ago in tribute to the films of Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch, where we brought cinema and art together. This time, we’re bringing together Tokyo, cinema, and illustrators.
Beginning with the cinema of Ozu in the 1950s and extending to the present day, this cross-genre selection of classic and cult films also serves as a small guide to Japanese cinema. From stories of post-war destruction and rapid modernization, to Yakuza tales unfolding in Tokyo’s neon-lit backstreets, and giant monster narratives that level the city to the ground, Japanese cinema is a magical journey through many worlds.
24 Films, 24 Illustrators and Tokyo can be seen at Bant Mag. Havuz / Bina between May 8–19.
